In this episode, we interview the endocrinologist behind the blog, “Hormones Demystified.” He prefers to remain anonymous, but I can tell you he is a highly respected and a very well-trained physician, and he is no stranger to controversy. He speaks his mind and has made it his mission to educate the public about fringe health practices that may be doing more harm than good. This episode may get your blood boiling, or it may make you rethink some assumptions. Either way, it is bound to be entertaining and informative.

The endocrinologist admits he doesn't have time to read evertything that's published – but demands patients respect his knowledge. I truly wonder if he would have the time to go through papers with his patients.
He suggests reliable sites like the Mayo Clinic.
Here's what the Mayo Clinic says on Sept. 4 2018, when dicussing low carb diets:
"If you follow a low-carbohydrate diet that's higher in fat and possibly higher in protein, it's important to choose foods with healthy unsaturated fats and healthy proteins. Limit foods containing saturated and trans fats, such as meat, high-fat dairy products, and processed crackers and pastries".
Is that "reliable", or is that "be sure to quote the party line so we won't get sued"?
I'm very glad I took the time to read and re-read that thick book (Good Calories Bad Calories) by the science journalist Gary Taubes, before I decided to go on a low carb diet.
When I asked my physician about studies she would recommend, she responded with: "The American College of Family Physicians recomends…."
Sigh.
I completely agree about Gary Taubes. he is fantastic as is his book!
